Encouragement for education
The five tutorial centres in the Rewari district were set up initially to provide basic education to children from deprived backgrounds, whose parents could not afford to send them to school. Qualified teachers are recruited to give lessons in rented premises. In 10 years, several hundred children have grown up through the ranks and are now better equipped to continue their studies or find employment.
Now that education in India is compulsory and free (at least officially!), the centres continue to provide coaching which is adapted to individual needs, every week-day in the late afternoon. The children are encouraged to develop their talents to the full, under the watchful eyes of their parents! They receive school equipment and medical check-ups, and from time to time parcels of food and clothing are distributed to the parents – to be shared out with all the family members.
Over the years, progress is visible at every level…
